The practice remains open, but for urgent and emergency cases only.
In all other cases we are able to offer a vet consultation over the telephone. In the event that the vet needs to examine your pet, you will be invited to the surgery. Medications can be posted out to you, or if urgent treatment is required may be collected from the surgery. Our telephones are very busy at the moment so please be patient with us if you're struggling to get through.
The Whickham surgery is closed for all but telephone consultations and the collection of urgent medication by prior arrangement. If you are a client of the Whickham surgery, you should attend the Gateshead Hospital if your pets needs to be examined by a vet.
We take the health and safety of you and our staff very seriously. We are doing our best to minimise person to person contact, in accordance with government advice. If you need to attend the surgery, you are asked to call us when you arrive and to remain in your vehicle until called in to the surgery. In most cases, the vet will discuss your concerns over the telephone and collect your pet from you so that you do not need to come in to the building. If you do not have a car then you are able to wait away from reception or in a consulting room in order to minimise contact.
We understand that many people are anxious about the health of their pets as well as themselves. We want to reassure you that we are still here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week if you need us.
Thanks and best wishes,
The Sheriffs Highway Team
